BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Poultry
Research Institute was established via a project ‘Establishment of Poultry
Research Institute at Jaaaba Mansehra Hazara region”. The project started in
2009 and completed in 2013 while converted into non developmental phase in
July, 2014.
It is
the only research institute of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which is actively involved in
research and developmental activities for uplifting the poultry (commercial and
rural) sector of the province. The institute is mainly focusing for the
development with special emphasis on the production enhancement of rural
poultry sector of the province for poverty alleviation in order to uplift the
socio-economic status of the rural population.
This
institute has well defined task of responsibility to disseminate the high
quality poultry Breeds (in term of egg production) to the local community to
increase their source of income in comparison with already available local low
productive chicken breeds.
The institute is providing disease diagnostic
facilities to densely populated commercial and local farmers of Hazara division
in order to minimize the considerable losses being harbored by the Poultry
having quantifiable economic impact.
OBJECTIVES
1. Productivity
Enhancement of the rural poultry population.
2. To carry out
problem oriented research in different disciplines of commercial and rural
poultry.
3. To provide disease
diagnostic surveillance and control facilities to Poultry Sector (Commercial
& rural).
4. Human Resource
Development specially women folk of the province & other rural communities
in poultry sector.
5. Collaboration with
national and international organizations involved in the development of poultry
sector.
MISSION/VISION
Boost
poultry development in a policy environment through public investment and
inducing private capital/ initiatives in the sector for poverty alleviation,
employment Generation, food security and generation of exportable surpluses.

DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES UNDER ANNUAL TECHNICAL PROGRAM
Research
Studies on the Annual Technical Program during 2016-17 are:
1.
Prevalence of Avian Influenza (H9) and Newcastle disease virus
circulating in Poultry Population of Hazara Division in Collaboration with
NRLPD, Islamabad.
2.
Prevalence of Invasive and Non Invasive Escherichia coli from farm and Household
water samples.

Research Proposal; Comparative Productive
Performance of Two Different Poultry Breeds (RIR and Black Astralorp) at
Poultry Research Institute Jaaba.

Bank of Various Chicken Breeds at Poultry Research Institute.

Growth Promotent and Immunomodulatory effect of deitry
supplementation of multi strength probiotic in broilers.

Poultry
Research Institute recently established the following
packages/technology/services have been developed and available for farmers of
Hazara Region. These services can be utilized by the farmer to improve their
poultry production and boost their economics.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
During the past two years Poultry Research Institute has
attained dependable position in the area for its disease diagnosis and research
related activities. This is the reason that poultry farmers of not only Hazara
division, but from the other areas like Muzafarabad (AJK) also get services
from this centre. The technical staff is efficiently involved in providing the
best services to the poultry sector.
